The IPAF operator course instructs a candidate to prepare and safely operate various types of MEWPs, also referred to as cherry pickers, aerial lifts or scissor lifts. Learning Objectives
To instruct an operator to prepare and safely operate various types of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) and obtain an IPAF MEWP Operators licence.
Course Content
Legislation, Regulations and Guidance affecting working at height with MEWPS. The IPAF training course is compliant with ISO18878: 2004 Mobile elevating work platforms – Operators (driver) training. Safety Guide.
Primary training –
- a) Selection of an appropriate MEWP
- b) Purpose and use of operators manuals
- c) Pre – start inspection
- d) Factors of stability
- e) Common hazards
- f) Workplace inspection
- g) Mewp controls
Venue Requirements
Theory - A suitable classroom to accommodate for the theory session.
Practical – A suitable work area allowing the MEWP to be fully operated by each candidate.

8 hours in total
Certification
A IPAF Photo Card and Certificate will be issued to successful delegates who completed and passed both theory and practical sessions which a two year validity period
